## Honesty is Always the Best Policy

Todd Archer, Concierge President

In our fast-paced world of healthcare benefits administration, there's something that sometimes gets overlooked: the importance of honesty. I want to have a heart-to-heart about why honesty is our best ally and how it can help ensure we’re always finding the answers we need to foster mutual success.

**It’s plain and simple: honesty matters.**

In our industry, honesty isn’t just a virtue—it's a necessity. When someone asks a question, don’t dance around the answer. People will respect you more if you’re honest, even if the honest truth might not be exactly what they want to hear.

For example, if a group *needs* their benefit plans to include specialty pharmacy carve-outs to save money on healthcare spend and that’s something you don’t offer, don’t twist the truth to win the deal. There’s no need to sell them on things like Patient Assistance Programs (PAPs) when your plan offerings just don’t fit their needs. It’ll only bring you down in the long run when your retention rates plummet.

When we communicate openly and truthfully, we build trust with everyone involved, including employers, brokers, employees, and all other stakeholders. This helps us avoid misunderstandings and focus on what really matters: providing tailored, meaningful benefits that don’t break the bank.

**But what do you do when someone asks a question you can't answer?**

You may not always have the answers, but knowing where to find them is important.

Invest in building relationships with others who do have the answers. These connections provide valuable resources that can guide you when you're unsure. Knowing where to turn when you don't have the answers yourself helps ensure that you can address challenges effectively and efficiently. By prioritizing open dialogue and strong relationships, you equip yourself with the tools needed to navigate any uncertainty. It’s not about having all the answers but knowing how to find them.

Nurturing honest communication is key to this process. It creates a trustworthy environment where information flows freely.

**How do you find others to help you with the tough questions?**

It comes down to something I’ve said again and again: foster relationships with others in the industry. Build the type of relationships where you can learn from them, and they can learn from you, too.

Here are some basics to help you build lasting relationships:

**Be Transparent:** Share the important details upfront. When you're transparent, others will follow suit.

**Listen Actively:** Really listen to what’s being said. Active listening often reveals more than just words.

**Verify Information:** Double-check the info you get from multiple sources. It’s always good to be sure.

**Foster Open Communication:** Create a space where open dialogue is welcomed. Honest communication leads to better outcomes.

**At Concierge, we believe in honesty and transparency.**

It’s what helps us deliver clear, accurate, and reliable information to our clients.

I encourage all my fellow professionals to keep honesty at the forefront of their practices. Finding the answers enables informed decision-making, builds trust, and ensures efficient problem-solving.

But in the end, it’s about more than getting the right answers; it’s about building lasting relationships based on trust and respect.
